Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDSA) has a new investor.

Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund plans to buy a 3 to 5 percent stake in the oil and gas company, according to a Reuters report.

Shell welcomed its new investor in a statement saying, “We are delighted to welcome the Qatar Investment Authority as a long term and major shareholder in Shell, and particularly given our excellent strategic relationship with the Qatari state.”

Shares of Shell were relatively flat during midday trading on Friday.
