General Electric’s (NYSE:GE) Power Conversion unit netted $600 million worth of contracts in order to supply propulsion, dynamic positioning, vessel automation, and drilling systems under Brazil’s ambitious rig-building program, Upstream reported. The contracts were awarded over a period of 12 months, and they are for the supply of propulsion systems on 22 of the 29 ultra-deepwater rigs that are currently being built for Sete Brasil. GE has made large investments in the oil and gas sector in recent years, and its Power Conversion unit is one of the platforms upon which GE is pursuing aggressive growth in Brazil and other key offshore markets.
