Will Microsoft’s Business Sale Make These Top Institutional Shareholders Happy?

Ericsson AB (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been considering a purchase of Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s IPTV business, which makes software used by phone companies like AT&T (NYSE:T) to deliver television via Internet, Bloomberg stated. It is possible that the transaction will be announced in a few weeks. Microsoft is the biggest software maker, and it intends to focus on delivering TV via its Xbox game console. “As a bolt-on acquisition, this would make sense for Ericsson as it provides for a more complete offering,” Alexander Peterc, an analyst at Exane BNP Paribas, informed Bloomberg. “Still, the technology started to get hyped about 10 years ago and may have reached its peak already so I don’t see this as a growth market.”

These institutional firms indicated owning shares of Microsoft in Q4 2012. They reported owning a total of 5.761 billion shares on 12/31/2012. The shares closed at $26.49 on 12/31/2012.
