Will This Negative Report on Barclays Anger These Top Institutional Shareholders?
Barclays (NYSE:BCS) has experienced “a lack of self-awareness” in recent years because of high pay and short-term incentives that brought the bank into disrepute, stated an independent report by lawyer and investment banker Anthony Salz, Dow Jones reported. The Salz Review was commissioned by Barclays’ former chairman after the bank admitted to its attempts to rig interbank interest rates last summer, andit describes how in 10 years the lender expanded becoming a disparate set of businesses, each with its own separate culture. ”The result of this growth was that Barclays became complex to manage,” the report published Wednesday said. “Despite some attempts to establish group-wide values, the culture that emerged tended to favor transactions over relationships, the short term over sustainability, and financial over other business purposes.”
