Will Wal-Mart’s Bribery Losses Anger These Top Institutional Shareholders?

In a regulatory filing, Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT) said that is now “probable” that it will incur losses due to allegations that company representatives bribed officials in Mexico to accelerate expansion in the area. The company stated in its annual report, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, that it was not able to estimate the amount of the loss because of the complexity of the related probes and internal review, but it said that it would not have a material effect on its business. The bribery allegations surfaced in a New York Times report last year, and they said the company intentionally stifled an early internal probe into claims that Wal-Mart de Mexico officials paid bribes years before to help build stores there.

These institutional firms indicated owning shares of Wal-Mart Stores in Q4 2012. They reported owning a total of 1.049 billion shares on 12/31/2012. The shares closed at $67.79 on 12/31/2012.
