Windows App Developers are Loving the Money

Although hardware sales have been limited so far, developers love to write apps for Windows Phone: more than 50,000 apps are now available for the platform, up from 30,000 in August. Regardless of the apps craze, former Windows Phone exec Charlie Kindel believes Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) tyrannical attitude towards carrier and hardware partners is detrimental to the platform’s development — especially in comparison with Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) more laid-back approach with Android.

The four primary sides of the market are not well-aligned in the mobile device space. Actually, the misalignment is so severe that it has caused great instability. Android is successful (at least in raw unit numbers) because it capitalizes on that misalignment. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has tried to change things by getting rid of one of the sides of the market. Windows Phone is taking a different approach.
