Windstream Corp Fourth Quarter Earnings Sneak Peek
S&P 500 (NYSE:SPY) component Windstream Corp (NASDAQ:WIN) will unveil its latest earnings on Wednesday, February 22, 2012. Windstream is a customer-focused broadband and telecommunications company that provides phone, Internet, complex data, and voice and transport services. It reaches customers in 29 states and offers its services primarily in rural areas in the United States.

Wall St. Earnings Expectations: The average analyst estimate is for profit of 20 cents per share, a rise of 5.3% from the company’s actual earnings for the year-ago quarter. The average estimate is the same as three months ago. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate was unchanged. It also has not changed during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting net income of 75 cents per share, a decline of 2.6% from last year.
Past Earnings Performance: The company fell short of estimates last quarter after being in line with forecasts the quarter prior. In the third quarter, it reported profit of 19 cents per share versus a mean estimate of 20 cents. Two quarters ago, it reported net income of 19 cents per share.

Wall St. Revenue Expectations: Analysts are projecting a rise of 6.8% in revenue from the year-earlier quarter to $1.1 billion.

A Look Back: In the third quarter, profit fell 16.1% to $71.5 million (14 cents a share) from $85.2 million (18 cents a share) the year earlier, missing analyst expectations. Revenue rose 6% to $1.02 billion from $965.8 million.
Revenue has increased in each of the past four quarters. Revenue rose 12.3% in the second quarter from the year earlier, climbed 20.7% in the first quarter from the year-ago quarter and 30% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year.
The decrease in profit in the third quarter came after net income rose in the previous quarter. In the second quarter, net income rose 18%.
Stock Price Performance: Between December 19, 2011 and February 16, 2012, the stock price had risen $1.21 (10.7%), from $11.27 to $12.48. It saw one of its worst periods between July 7, 2011 and July 18, 2011 when shares fell for eight straight days, dropping 5.1% (-65 cents) over that span. The stock price saw one of its best stretches over the last year between January 9, 2012 and January 18, 2012, when shares rose for seven straight days, increasing 6.3% (+73 cents) over that span.
