To put it midly, this has not been the best week for Ray Rice. The star Baltimore running back was arrested in Atlantic City after a domestic dispute with his fiancée, a dispute that was initially reported by the Baltimore Sun as “a very minor physical altercation” and “little more than a misunderstanding,” would eventually be revealed to include the fact that Rice knocked his fiancée unconscious, according to a copy of the police report obtained by CBS Baltimore.
While there is allegedly video footage of the entire altercation between Rice, 27, and Janay Palmer, 26, the most damning footage was obtained by TMZ yesterday. It showed what appears to be Rice carrying a clearly incapacitated Palmer through an elevator door. The video was confirmed to be genuine by Rice’s lawyers. Rice and Palmer were both arrested, and returned to their shared home together after being detained by police.
The Reval Casino called security at around 2:50 a.m., according to the Baltimore Sun. The paper also reported that earlier that day the pair had joined friends at a burlesque show and “appeared to be in good spirits.” This is the first time Rice has ever been arrested, and the Sun also confirmed that the case will be reviewed by the NFL as per the league’s personal conduct policy.
Rice, who stands 5’8″ and weighs 212 pounds, is set to make up to $35 million dollars through 2017, although only $15 million of that is guaranteed. As of this writing, the Ravens have made no public indication of how, if at all, they will handle any kind of discipline. Many of the members of the team’s front office are in Indianapolis for the NFL combine. For those curious, the original incident report and the TMZ footage may be found below.
