NFL: 3 Potential Upsets in Week 13

Upsets happen every week in the National Football League. It’s one of the main reasons why the NFL is far and away the most popular professional sports league in the country. Last week, we saw the Chicago Bears stun the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving; the Washington Redskins shock the New York Giants; and the Denver Broncos put an end to the New England Patriots’ bid for a perfect season on Sunday Night Football. With that said, here is a look at three potential upsets in Week 13 of the 2015 season.

Note: All upset picks are against the spread (ATS) picks.

1. Houston Texans (6-5) over Buffalo Bills (5-6)

Point Spread: Bills favored by 3 points

This is a matchup of two teams that are trending in opposite directions. The Bills have lost back-to-back games while playing some of their most inconsistent football of the season. The Texans, on the other hand, have won four-straight games in a convincing fashion, largely due to their dominant play on the defensive side of the ball.

While we do believe that the Bills defense will cause problems for Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer in this matchup, it won’t be enough for Buffalo to keep the Texans from coming into Ralph Wilson Stadium and leaving with a win. Look for another dominant performance out of All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt and the Texans defense.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-7) over Tennessee Titans (2-9)

Point Spread: Titans favored by 2.5 points

These teams met on Thursday Night Football in Week 11 in a game that ended up being one of the sloppiest of the season. While this matchup may look like a snoozer on paper, it could actually end up being one of the more entertaining games of the weekend. Each team has a promising young quarterback — Blake Bortles for the Jaguars and Marcus Mariota for the Titans — in addition to several other young players who hope to make a name for themselves in the NFL.

When it comes to this game, we can’t really figure out why the Titans are favored. Tennessee may have home-field advantage, but the way the Jaguars thoroughly dominated the Titans at the line of scrimmage just two weeks ago convinces us that Jacksonville will go into Nissan Stadium and win this game outright.

3. New York Giants (5-6) over New York Jets (6-5)

Point Spread: Jets favored by 2 points

As we all know, anything can happen in rivalry games like this one. The Jets may have a clear-cut advantage defensively, but in our eyes, the level of play each team gets from their quarterback will decide the outcome of this matchup. With that being the case, we trust the Giants’ Eli Manning a lot more than we trust the Jets’ Ryan Fitzpatrick.

On top of that, Manning’s life will be a lot easier this weekend, as the Jets will likely lack All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, who is recovering from a concussion. Look for Manning and his top target, Odell Beckham Jr., to have a big game this weekend, leading the Giants to an outright win over their intra-city rivals.
