NFL: 3 Potential Upsets in Week 14
Upsets happen every week in the National Football League. It’s one of the main reasons why the NFL is far and away the most popular professional sports league in the country. Last week, we saw the San Francisco 49ers go into Chicago and stun the Bears; we saw the Dallas Cowboys go on the road and shock the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football; and we saw the Philadelphia Eagles pull off the biggest upset of the week when they handed the heavily-favored New England Patriots their second loss of the season. With that being said, here is a look at three potential upsets in Week 14 of the 2015 season.
* Note: All upset picks are against the spread (ATS) picks.
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) over Cincinnati Bengals (10-2)
- Point Spread: Bengals favored by 3 points
Simply put, this is a must watch game for NFL fans. There are serious playoff implications involved and there will be All-Pro caliber talent all over the field. The Bengals won the first meeting between these two AFC North powerhouse teams back in early November, but we believe it is the Steelers who will come away victorious this week. Offensively, Pittsburgh is as good, or better, than any team in the league now that they are at full strength. With the news that Bengals cornerback Adam Jones will likely miss this game, we are forecasting a big day for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and his trio of wide receivers – Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, and Markus Wheaton. Our guess is that Andy Dalton, A.J. Green, and the rest of the Bengals’ offense will find some success in this game as well, but it won’t be enough for them to come away with the victory. We are predicting an outright win for the Steelers in a game that will turn into an offensive shootout.
2. Washington Redskins (5-7) over Chicago Bears (5-7)
- Point Spread: Bears favored by 3.5 points
You may be shocked to hear this, but both of these teams have a legitimate chance at landing a spot in the 2015 NFC Playoffs. The Bears may have homefield advantage in this matchup, and we wouldn’t be shocked if they come away with the win, but we just don’t see this game being decided by more than a field goal. The Bears are one of the more beat up teams in the league, and will now be without Pro Bowl tight end Martellus Bennett, who was placed on the team’s season-ending injured reserve list this week. For the Redskins, we are expecting dynamic wide receiver DeSean Jackson to redeem himself for his rough game last week with a strong performance in Chicago. Expect to see this matchup decided in the game’s final two minutes.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (5-7) over Buffalo Bills (6-6)
- Point Spread: Bills favored by 1.5 points
This is yet another game where both teams will be playing for their playoff lives. The Eagles will be fresh off of a shocking upset win over the New England Patriots, and the Bills are coming off of a much-needed win over the Houston Texans in Week 13. That said, we believe that the Eagles will prevail in this matchup, both straight-up and against the spread. While we were impressed with how well the Bills played a week ago, it is Philadelphia’s homefield advantage that we see as the difference in this one. Expect to see solid performances out of both teams with the Eagles coming away with a narrow victory in front of a raucous crowd at Lincoln Financial Field this coming Sunday.
