NFL: Here’s Every Player Arrested Since the 2016 Super Bowl
The offseason in the National Football League gives players time to relax, recover, and unwind. It is also a time of year when they have enough time on their hands to let their fame and fortune get them into trouble with the law. This year, we’ve seen fewer arrest than we did in 2015, but multiple players have still experienced serious run-ins with the law. Here is a look at all the NFL arrests since the conclusion of Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016.
Shilo Keo – February 13, 2016
Shilo Keo was arrested by police in Ada County, Idaho on suspicion of driving under the influence just days after helping the Denver Broncos defeat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. He was pulled over for driving with a broken taillight and the officers on duty believed he was drunk. Keo has since pled guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge, but he will never live this arrest down after this video, which was recorded from inside the car following his arrest and was released this offseason.
Jonathan Newsome – February 17, 2015
Jonathan Newsome, a former Indianapolis Colts linebacker, was arrested in late February in Zionsville, Ind. for charges of possession of marijuana. Unfortunately, this was not Newsome’s first drug-related offense and the Colts chose to release the former Ball State standout a few days after the incident.
Jaelen Strong – February 28, 2016
Jaelen Strong was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz. for possession of marijuana after police pulled over the car he was driving in (which also included Green Bay Packers cornerback Damarious Randall) for not having a visible license plate.
As it turns out, Strong didn’t initially admit to having marijuana in his possession. The Houston Texans released a statement saying that they were disappointed in the 22-year-old wide receiver, but he was not released.
Terrell Suggs – March 4, 2016
Terrell Suggs was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz. for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license following a single-car crash involving his white BMW 750Li. He told police that he fell asleep at the wheel shortly before the crash and has since pled not guilty after his representatives stated that the six-time Pro Bowler was simply going to a Mexican restaurant in the same shopping complex to call someone to come get him.
Tre Mason – March 6, 2016
Tre Mason was arrested in early March in Hollywood, Fla. for reckless driving, possession of marijuana, failure to register a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest. According to the police report that was filed with the Broward County Clerk of Courts, the Los Angeles Rams running back had to be subdued with a taser.
Damian Swann – March 18, 2016
Damian Swann was arrested for reckless driving and speeding in Athens, Ga. after his car was clocked going 100 mph in a 65 mph zone. He was also in possession of two handguns, but the New Orleans Saints cornerback had permits for both firearms.
Cameron Artis-Payne – April 24, 2016
Cameron Artis-Payne was also arrested for speeding and reckless driving in Gaston County, N.C. after he was pulled over for driving 102 mph in a 65 mph zone. He paid a fine and faced no discipline from the league or his team, the Carolina Panthers.
T.J. McDonald – May 10, 2016
Los Angeles Rams safety T.J. McDonald was arrested in Woodland Hills, Calif. for driving under the influence of a substance other than alcohol after he crashed into a parked car. He has yet to face any discipline from the Rams or the NFL.
Shaq Thompson – May 22, 2016
Shaq Thompson was arrested just outside of Charlotte, N.C. for driving left of the center line after his SUV crashed head-on into an on-coming car that was being driven by former Duke University quarterback Anthony Boone. Boone was hospitalized following the accident, and despite police saying alcohol was involved, neither party was arrested for any alcohol-related offense.
Cody Latimer – May 30, 2016
This was one of the strangest NFL arrests of the offseason. Cody Latimer was arrested in Denver on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for a traffic violation after the Denver Broncos wide receiver called the police to file a domestic violence report against his girlfriend.
Dan Skuta – June 9, 2016
Dan Skuta was arrested this offseason and charged with misdemeanor first-degree battery for an incident in which he allegedly pushed a woman into a glass window at an Orlando nightclub. The charges against him were eventually dropped.
Robert Turbin – July 8, 2016
Robert Turbin was arrested for possession of marijuana in Logan, Utah after being pulled over for running a stop sign. The Indianapolis Colts running back faces a misdemeanor charge in the Utah court as he attempts to extend his career during training camp.
Jonathan Williams – July 14, 2016
Jonathan Williams, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, was the latest of the NFL arrests this offseason. He was arrested in Fayetteville, Ark. on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was officially booked with DWI and is due back in court in August. If you want to witness Williams’ arrest, here is the video.
