4 New Video Game Rumors: ‘Fallout 4,’ ‘No Man’s Sky,’ & More
The time has come for another roundup of all the video game leaks and rumors that have hit the web in the past week. Lots of exciting details about upcoming games have seeped through the cracks this week, and we’ve collected it all right here.
So whether you’re interested in Fallout 4, Gears of War, or a handful of other games, do yourself a favor and keep on reading. Not all of these rumors may pan out, but most of the items this week are looking pretty likely.
1. Is Guillermo del Toro’s production company making a cinematic trailer for Fallout 4?
We’ve been hearing rumors about Fallout 4 for quite some time now, but nearly everything we’ve heard has been based on circumstantial evidence. This week, things have finally gotten a little more credible. It all started with the LinkedIn profile of a 3D artist working for Miranda Studios.
First, some background. Miranda Studios is an outfit established by director Guillermo del Toro that specializes in computer graphics. Much of what the studio does is create trailers for companies like Disney and Nintendo.
According to the artist’s LinkedIn profile, he spent December 2014 through March 2015 working with Miranda Studios on a cinematic trailer for Fallout 4.
Although it’s no surprise that Bethesda is working on Fallout 4 based on a quickly mounting heap of evidence, this is among the first pieces of credible evidence that the game is in the works.
What makes this evidence credible? Shortly after Destructoid posted an article about the infamous LinkedIn profile, Miranda Studios sent them a warning to take down the article because it violates a non-disclosure agreement. The only problem is that Destrutcoid never signed an NDA. But the very idea that the studio suggests an NDA is in place essentially verifies that the company has worked on a cinematic trailer for Fallout 4.
If all of this is as true as it seems, you can pretty much bank on seeing a Fallout 4 announcement at Bethesda’s E3 presentation on June 14 — cinematic trailer and all.
2. Footage of Gears of War remaster leaked
No matter how hard they try, some game makers just can’t keep their upcoming games under wraps. That seems to be the case with the as-yet-unannounced remaster of Gears of War. The latest hints that this game is in development for Xbox One come from people who are apparently testing the game’s multiplayer mode. The players in question had signed a non-disclosure agreement stating that they wouldn’t let anyone know that they were playing the game. Instead of honoring the NDA, they streamed footage of themselves playing it online.
Microsoft responded by banning them from Xbox Live, effectively blocking the testers from taking their Xbox One consoles online. And by banning them, Microsoft has given further credence to the existence of a Gears of War remaster.
There’s still no word yet on when to expect this game, but I suspect it will launch sooner rather than later. If Microsoft is already testing the multiplayer, it’s probably almost ready to release. Plus, with Halo 5 coming this holiday, Microsoft is unlikely to release two major shooters around the same time. Expect an announcement at E3.
3. Has No Man’s Sky been delayed to 2016?
Sony has been promoting the indie game No Man’s Sky for a while now, placing it high on many gamers’ list of most-anticipated PlayStation 4 games. As of now, Sony and developer Hello Games have No Man’s Sky scheduled to launch in 2015, but that may not be the case, according to GameSpot’s Danny O’Dwyer.
On a recent Kinda Funny Games podcast, O’Dwyer said that the game is “definitely not coming out this year.” When asked about the source of the information on Twitter, he replied that he can’t reveal that, but says, “it’s pretty obvious it’s a long way from being finished.”

4. Is a new Paper Mario in the works for Wii U?
Of all of this week’s rumors, this one is the shakiest, but here it goes. According to a NeoGAF post, a new Paper Mario game is in the works for Wii U. For those not familiar, Paper Mario is a series of role-playing games that take place in the Mushroom Kingdom and star everyone’s favorite Italian plumbers.
The evidence for a new game isn’t entirely convincing, as it’s in Japanese and there hasn’t been an official translation (though our in-house person who knows some Japanese confirmed it does say a Wii U version of Paper Mario is being made, though who knows about the validity poster). But according to the story presented on NeoGAF, one or more employees of Intelligent Systems — a frequent Nintendo developer — spilled the beans about the game at a recent job fair.
