Apple and Android Dominate Mobile Advertising

The iPad still dominates the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) tablet and accounted for 97 percent of all ads shown on such devices, and on the phone side, Android is proving a tougher competitor, with Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) operating system now serving up 56 percent of mobile ads.

This is double the figure for Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS. Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone is still the single largest ad target, though Android devices also accounted for 15 of the top 20 devices in Millennial’s rankings. According to a quarterly study from Millennial Media, overall impressions served by iPads were up 450 percent from a year ago. Looks like Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) have miles to run.

“Among specific Android hardware makers, Taiwan’s HTC has seen its number of ad impressions double from a year earlier, while China’s Huawei is serving up more than triple the number of ads it was a year earlier,” according to All Things Digital.
