If it feels like Apple’s (AAPL) iPad is the only tablet on the market, you’re sixth-sense is working.
Research firm Strategy Analytics says Steve Jobs et al controlled 95% of the 4.4 million unit tablet computer market with the iPad. The next largest competitor was Google (GOOG) Android with a measly 2.3% market share.
But don’t get too orgasmic about these numbers. Strategy Analytics said, “We expect Android’s share to rise in the fourth quarter as more models, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, enter the market.”
It’s early days in the tablet market. However, Apple is definitely taking advantage of a real first-mover advantage.
