Apple’s iPad Inventories May Hit Panel and Chip Makers

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly keeping a tight leash on inventories of panels for the iPad2. This might adversely affect Q4 shipments of panels from manufacturers such as Samsung, LGL Group (AMEX:LGL) and Chimei Innolux. Chip makers which also may take a hit are Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM), STMicroelectronics N.V (NYSE:STM), TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc (NASDAQ:TQNT), and Skyworks Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:SWKS).

Based on available data of iPad Q3 sales and supply chain inventories in the pipeline, it’s estimated a stockpile remains for 4-5 million units of the iPad2. That’ll take some time to burn off. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is presumably controlling inventory leading up to a Q1 2012 launch of the iPad3, and panel manufacturers have reported declining shipments through September and October.

According to reports, panels for the new iPad have already started to ship to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) while Taiwanese panel makers TPK Holding and Wintek are due to ship in November-December.
