Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans that were hoping to see a refreshed Apple TV device at tomorrow’s media event may be disappointed. Tech industry commentator and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Ventures partner MG Siegler is backing off an Apple TV prediction he made last month, reports Apple Insider.
In September, Siegler tweeted, “I guess those excited about a software refresh in a week are gonna be really excited when new Apple TV hardware is unveiled next month.” The “software refresh” that Siegler was referring to was the Apple TV 6.0 software update that was released later that month.
However, Siegler is now retracting his original prediction. According to the “most recent whispers” that Siegler has heard, the Apple TV hardware refresh has been delayed.
“I feel the need to pour a little — just a little, mind you — cold water on the rumor fire,” wrote the tech commentator on his ParisLemon blog. Although he is no longer sure about a new Apple TV product, Siegler remains confident that Apple will unveil “new iPads, Macs, and OS X Mavericks” at tomorrow’s event.
Last month, Apple TV rumors got a boost when GigaOM reported that global trade intelligence platform Panjiva had discovered multiple bills of lading that described shipments of “Set Top Boxes” addressed to Apple. More recently, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) sparked speculation about an Apple TV refresh when the online retailer’s French and German websites listed the Apple TV’s expected availability date as October 23.
Apple is holding its invitation-only media event tomorrow in downtown San Francisco. Here’s how Apple has traded over the past five trading sessions.
