Hey Apple, Is T-Mobile Dropping New iPhone Hints?
Does this internal T-Mobile (NYSE:TMUS) document confirm Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) upcoming iPhone launch date? According to TmoNews, T-Mobile has planned employee blackout dates for September 20 through September 22, reports Apple Insider. TmoNews is an unofficial source of T-Mobile news and rumors.
Earlier this month, AllThingsD cited insider sources that stated Apple would unveil its new iPhones at a September 10 media event. However, the next-generation iPhones aren’t expected to be available for purchase until approximately 10 days later.
This has led many commentators to speculate that T-Mobile’s scheduled employee blackout dates are related to the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C debuts. However, TmoNews points out that Samsung’s (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy Note III is expected to be announced on September 4, so these blackout dates may also be related to that device’s debut.
On the other hand, Samsung product launches are not known for drawing crowds in the same way that Apple product launches do. It seems more likely that T-Mobile would ensure that all employees were available for an iPhone launch.
T-Mobile has benefitted from the addition of the iPhone after recently becoming the last of the major U.S. carriers to offer Apple’s flagship smartphone. T-Mobile began selling the iPhone on April 12 of this year and saw a 27.5 percent increase in its total revenues in the second quarter of fiscal year 2013.
