Now that the WWDC hype has calmed down and we know almost everything about iOS 5, it’s time to focus on the iPhone 5 again.
For the first time in 4 years, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) didn’t announce a new summer launch for the iPhone. That means the September launch rumors are all but confirmed.
Several more iPhone 5 rumors have cropped up in the weeks since WWDC. We gathered everything we know here.
There will be a bigger, edge-to-edge screen (Likely)

Support for 4G networks (Unlikely)
Image: Verizon (NYSE:VZ)
One phone for both Verizon and AT&T (A big maybe)
iOS 5 will get more features before the official launch (Likely)
No more Home Button (Unlikely)
A better camera that shoots full HD video (Likely)
Right now the iPhone’s 5 MP camera does a great job at shooting HD video, but we’d love to see Apple take it a step further. Many Android phones already have a 8 MP camera that can shoot full 1080p HD video. The camera has been a standard feature on the iPhone since the beginning, so it’s only natural for it to get a nice upgrade with the iPhone 5.So far, rumors point to an 8 MP camera that can shoot 1080p HD video.
Dual LED Flash (Likely)
Same design as the iPhone 4 (Likely)
As the iPhone 5 approaches, this seems more and more likely. As far as looks go, some believe the iPhone 5 will only be a minor update from the iPhone 4. The outside will have the same design, while the insides will get all the upgrades like a faster processor and more memory. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) pulled a similar move with the iPhone 3G to 3GS upgrade. Some even think the phone will be called the “iPhone 4S” instead of the iPhone 5.
On the other hand, there could be a totally new design (Unlikely)
Other rumors point to a complete redesign for the iPhone 5 with a thinner body and larger screen. We know Apple likes to make its products thinner and lighter with each upgrade, so this is a distinct possibility.
More storage with 32 GB and 64 GB models (Likely)

We really thought this was going to happen with the iPhone 4 launch. Instead, it looks like Apple was holding off for another year to finally offer a 64 GB version of the iPhone. If that’s the case, the iPhone 5 will probably be offered in 32 GB and 64 GB flavors. But the 16 GB iPhone 4 could stick around at a discount.
NFC for mobile payments (Very unlikely)
This was one of the earliest rumors for the iPhone 5. Some think that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will include a Near Field Communication chip in the phone. These chips can tie your phone to your credit card or bank account so you can pay for things at special check out pads in stores. Some think Apple will let you tie your NFC chip to your Apple ID so you can make purchases with the same credit card you use to buy iTunes music and apps.
A faster A5 processor, just like the iPad 2 (Almost a definite)
A new antenna that won’t lose a signal when you grip it (Definitely)
A cheaper “Nano” iPhone (Not a chance)
A 3D display for games and movies (Unlikely)

No more glass on the back (Maybe, assuming the redesign rumors are true)
Sorry, but you’ll have to wait until September (Likely)
An even smaller SIM card than the current Micro SIM (Unlikely)
Sprint and T-Mobile will get some iPhone love (Somewhat likely)
Full voice control from Nuance (Very likely)
