Is an Apple Television Steve Jobs Last Great Invention?

The Steve Jobs biography is set to hit bookstores on Monday and excerpts have already hit the Internet.

While there’s a number of nuggets about the icon, the biographer Walter Isaccson disclosed that Jobs had a dream to build an Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) television set. The company hasn’t produced one yet, but Jobs said he “finally cracked” the challenge of developing a simple user interface for viewers without “complex remotes.”

Rumors have been swirling for awhile that Apple is working on a TV. In August, multiple Silicon Valley sources said that the company is working on a iOS operating system, digital-based one. One analyst went so far as to say the company could produce one in either late 2012 or early 2013.

Along with news of Apple’s earnings this week, Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) stock was down 0.62.% to $392.87 on Friday. Shares are up 21.8% year to date. The stock has traded in a 52-week range between $297.76 and $426.70.
