In what could be a sign of an improved rate of production from its manufacturers, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has recently updated the estimated shipping times for the iPhone 5S on its website. According to the Online Apple Store, any size or color of the iPhone 5S that is ordered via the website will ship within two to three weeks.
Apple had previously estimated a vague “October” arrival time for most iPhone 5S colors, while the gold-colored iPhone 5S used to have an estimated arrival time of “November.” Although the new arrival estimates also fall within these months, the more specific shipping timeline suggests that Apple may have resolved the fingerprint sensor yield issues that were widely cited as the cause for the initial shortage.
However, MacRumors noted that the revised shipping times only apply to the Online Apple Stores for the U.S., Canada, and the Asia Pacific region. Online Apple Stores for Europe still list an “October” shipping time for the iPhone 5S.
Although the shipping time estimates on the Online Apple Store appear to have improved, the overall availability of the iPhone 5S in Apple’s brick-and-mortar locations in the U.S. has dropped, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. In a recent note to investors obtained by Apple Insider, Munster noted that the availability of the iPhone 5S over the past week has dropped to 6 percent from 27 percent in the previous week based on his checks at 60 Apple Stores.
However, Munster believes that the recent decline in in-store availability is not related to any production issues, but is instead due to preparations that Apple is making for multiple upcoming international launches. As noted by Apple Insider, the new iPhones will be launched in 51 new markets between October 25 and November 1.
Apple’s iPhone 5S has been in short supply since it was launched on September 20. The Cupertino-based company sold out of all sizes and colors of the iPhone 5S less than 48 hours after it was released. Here’s how Apple closed out the trading week on Friday.
