Will T-Mobile (NYSE:TMUS) become the latest carrier to offer Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) best-selling iPad? John Legere, President and CEO of T-Mobile, hinted at a possible iPad distribution deal in a recent tweet, reports Apple Insider.
“What has two thumbs and is excited for October 22?” Tweeted Legere along with a link to an article about Apple’s upcoming media event. The Cupertino-based company sent out invitations earlier this week for a media event that will be held on October 22.
Although the invitation failed to include any details about the event, many industry watchers expect that Apple will unveil the fifth-generation iPad and the iPad mini 2 with Retina display. Besides the date and place for the event, Apple’s invitation included the teaser, “We still have a lot to cover.”
T-Mobile was the last of the major U.S. carriers to offer Apple’s flagship smartphone when it began selling the iPhone on April 12 of this year. However, unlike AT&T (NYSE:T), Sprint (NYSE:S), and Verizon (NYSE:VZ), T-Mobile has yet to carry Apple’s iPads.
T-Mobile will announce its third quarter results on November 5. Last quarter T-Mobile beat analysts’ expectations thanks in part to the addition of Apple’s iPhone. According to the carrier’s second quarter results, “iPhone sales have accounted for approximately 29 percent of T-Mobile’s branded gross customer additions and upgrade smartphone sales.”
Although Legere has yet to confirm any new distribution deal, the T-Mobile CEO may already be getting excited about the possibility of seeing a similar boost in the carrier’s revenues from the addition of Apple’s upcoming iPad models. Here’s how Apple has traded over the past five trading sessions.
