Is This a Colorful Glimpse of the Low-Cost iPhone?

Is the long-rumored low-cost iPhone almost here? Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) fans recently got another fascinating glimpse of what Apple may have in store for one of the next iterations of its popular smartphone, thanks to Japanese blog Macotakara.

According to 9to5Mac, Macotakara is reporting that various colors of the low-cost iPhone are currently being tested in a small, preliminary batch. One of these initial runs features plastic iPhones in “Navy, Gold Orange, White and Gray” colors. A second run of the plastic iPhones features “White, Pink, Green, Blue and Yellow-orange.”

However, one color that won’t be available to buyers of the low-cost iPhone is black. The black color option is reportedly being reserved for Apple’s flagship iPhone. The same sources are also reporting that the iPhone 5S will be available in several colors, including green and gold. Macotakara also reported that the camera component will be upgraded with a dual LED flash.

Although Macotakara is reporting that the low-cost iPhone has already been produced in these colors, it also states that there is no guarantee that all of these color selections will make the final cut. The report also states that 1,000 units of the cheaper iPhone will be produced in June for field testing. Commercial production of this model of iPhone will reportedly begin in July and run through September.
