A new video that compares Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) upcoming iPad 5 to the iPad 4 and iPad mini has been posted online by Chinese parts supplier SW-Box, MacRumors reports. Although previously leaked images that purport to show Apple’s fifth-generation rear iPad shell have already emerged online, this new, high-quality video features detailed measurements and an opportunity to see how the iPad 5 looks like when it is placed next to Apple’s older-generation tablets.
The video also demonstrates that the iPad 5′s rear shell is considerably lighter than the iPad 4′s rear shell. While the iPad 4 casing weighs 146 grams, the iPad 5 casing weighs just 92 grams. These specifications appear to be in line with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s predictions that the iPad 5 would be approximately 15 percent thinner and 25 percent to 33 percent lighter than the previous generation.
Besides shrinking in overall size and weight, the iPad 5 also appears to feature some volume button, microphone hole, and speaker design alterations. Additionally, the iPad 5’s rear shell design appears to be more similar to the iPad mini design than it is to the iPad 4.
Although Apple has yet to announce an iPad 5 launch date, France’s MacGeneration website recently reported a rumor that Apple will host a “new special event around October 15.” Many industry watchers anticipate that Apple will refresh its iPad product line at this event.
