Is This Analyst the Most Accurate Apple Product Predictor?
When it comes to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) product predictions, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo certainly seems to know his stuff. As recently noted by Business Insider’s Jay Yarow, the well-connected analyst correctly predicted three major details about Apple’s latest iPhone models.
Although Kuo wasn’t the only analyst predicting a fingerprint scanner in the new iPhone, he was the first analyst to report that the home button fingerprint scanner would feature a sapphire cover. On the other hand, he also incorrectly predicted that the scanner would be convex instead of concave.
Kuo also accurately predicted Apple’s gold-colored iPhone 5S. Although this rumor originally emerged on Japanese blog Macotakara, Kuo later confirmed Apple’s unusual color choice for the iPhone 5S before the widely publicized leaks of Apple’s gold casings emerged online.
Finally, Kuo correctly forecasted that Apple was abandoning further production of the iPhone 5 in favor of the iPhone 5C. This rumor was first reported in Korea’s ETNews before Kuo also confirmed the product line shift last month.
So who is Ming-Chi Kuo? Business Insider notes that the analyst is based in Taiwan and doesn’t seem to make television appearances. Regardless of his low profile, it would appear that Kuo is well-connected to Apple’s Asian supply chain. Kuo’s insider sources may be one reason why he seems to be the most accurate analyst when it comes to predicting future Apple product details.
For industry watchers who are wondering what products Apple might be developing now, Kuo most recently predicted that Apple will unveil a larger-screen iPhone in 2014. According to the KGI Securities analyst, the device will have a screen size between 4.5 and 5 inches.
Here’s how Apple closed out the trading week.
