Issues Arise with Apple iOS 5.1 and Siri Dictation
It has been reported that the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 5.1 beta 3 has a potentially major flaw with the Siri Dictation references. There is a new section in the keyboard menu of the iPad called “About Privacy and Dictation.” When opened, the iPad provides the user with the standard legal and feature information for Siri Dictation.
Dictation does not work on the iPad 2 running iOS 5.1 beta 3, so maybe this will be a future iOS 5.1 feature for the iPad or it will be for the iPad 3. The same issue is also reported to be appearing on the Retina iPod Touch.
The iPhone 4S does not have a specific menu related to “Dictation and Privacy” in the keyboard settings panel. That information is reserved exclusively for the Siri preferences under general settings and covers both Dictation and Siri.
This may lessen worries that this new iPad Dictation menu is simply carried over code from the iPhone 4S. This also may mean that the iPad’s Siri support may only be for Siri Dictation. Months ago, it was also rumored that Apple was internally prototyping a version of the full Siri experience for the iPad, but there haven’t been any new developments since.
