Why is Microsoft Following Apple to China?

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is taking a leaf out of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) book in wooing China. An engineer from the company confirmed through a comment on the company’s blog that Sina Weibo (NASDAQ:SINA), China’s Twitter-like social network, will be fully integrated into the upcoming Windows 8 final release.

Jeff Kunins, who works on the Windows Live team, confirmed the news. “As you can see in the screenshots we continue to add partners such as China’s Sina Weibo, and we would be happy to see Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) provide the equivalent APIs for Google+ like Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter, and LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD) do,” he wrote in response to reader questions. Weibo will be part of Windows’ new People app, which is being described as a “modern, social address book.”

Apple announced on earlier this week that Weibo will be integrated into the next version of its desktop OS, Mountain Lion, when it launches in July.
