Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) users will soon be gaining a futuristic alternative to traditional window curtains. Sonte Film is an easy-to-install Wi-Fi enabled smart film that allows a user to adjust the amount of light passing through it by using an iOS or Android app on their smartphone.
The futuristic window covering is marketed as a do-it-yourself product that can easily be cut to different sizes and applied to any glass surface. Segments of the smart film can be daisy-chained together using Sonte’s proprietary prototype clips, so a user can adjust all the windows in their house simultaneously with the free iPhone app.
Sonte Film co-founder Bernard Kwan notes via YouTube that the smart film can be used as more than just a digital window shade. “When the Sonte Film is in the non-transparent state, it can double up as a projector screen,” states Kwan.
However, when utilized as a window shade, the film absorbs over 85 percent of ultraviolet radiation and reflects over 70 percent of infrared light. So besides providing instant privacy, the smart film also has the added benefit of reducing the amount of energy you need to cool your house.
Sonte Film debuted their product at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year where it was named one of the “Five Tech Startups Worth Watching at CES” by Entrepreneur.com. Sonte is currently seeking investors and has a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for expanding its production capabilities.
