A new video posted online by technology commentator Unbox Therapy examines the possibility that Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) next-generation iPad may include a fingerprint scanner, Apple Insider reports. As demonstrated in the video, the standard iPad 4 home button appears to be too large to fit inside the home button opening on what is ostensibly a front-panel component from the upcoming iPad 5.
Although Apple has yet to announce an iPad launch date, France’s MacGeneration website recently reported a rumor that Apple will host a “new special event around October 15.” According to MacGeneration’s sources, Apple will introduce a new iPad at this event, as well as a new Haswell-powered iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro.
Multiple iPad 5 component leaks have suggested that the next-generation iPad will borrow many design elements from Apple’s iPad mini, including a slimmer rear casing and narrower bezels. Renowned KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 would both feature upgraded 8-megapixel rear cameras similar to the camera found on the iPhone 5S.
Kuo also said that Apple will launch the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 before the end of the year. However, other sources have suggested that the iPad mini 2 launch would be delayed until next year due to production constraints with the new Retina display. Here’s how Apple traded over the past five sessions.
