Will This Ad Make You Buy an iPhone?
Samsung’s (SSNLF.PK) new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S 4, will go on sale at AT&T (NYSE:T) this Saturday, and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has prepared for the occasion with a new advertisement for the iPhone.
The one-minute long video features iPhone users taking photographs of beautiful scenery, cityscapes, and themselves, while showcasing the newest capabilities of iPhone 5 camera. It has one single sentence of voiceover dialogue: “Every day more photos are taken with the iPhone than any other camera.” Beyond what the viewer can take away from the footage, no information about the iPhone 5 was given.
As Peter Kafka wrote for AllThingsD, “I have no idea if it will help Tim Cook sell a single extra handset. But it is a wonderful piece of moviemaking.”
The Galaxy S 4 will ostensibly by the iPhone’s greatest competitor, but the phone may be crippled right out of the gate. Its release has been delayed supply chain concerns and it has so far been met with mostly tepid reviews. “Several of its advanced features don’t work very well, and it feels more like a collection of functions than a smoothly integrated experience,” said Bloomberg’s Rich Jaroslovsky in his review. While The Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg wrote that the Galaxy S 4 was “a good phone, just not a great one.”
