Yahoo! Beats Google in Domestic Web Traffic and 2 Other Hot Stocks to Watch

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO): Current price $27.80

According to comScore’s monthly rankings, Yahoo surpassed Google in domestic Web traffic in July. The aggregation of sites operated by Yahoo, which includes the home page together with sites for news, finance, and sports, saw 196.6 million unique visitors in the month versus 192.3 for Google sites. Finishing in the top five were Microsoft, Facebook, and AOL. The last time Yahoo ranked number one was in May 2011, said comScore, which informed the website Marketing Land.


Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT): Current price $32.30

Shares are up about 2.5 percent Thursday morning after being upgraded at Nomura to Buy from Hold. Analyst Rick Sherlund wrote Thursday that Microsoft investors can benefit from shareholder activism, and specifically, those investors led by ValueAct are likely to pressure Microsoft to increase its dividend and share repurchases. Sherlund believes that though ValueAct holds a stake of under 1 percent in Microsoft, it wants a seat on the board, and Microsoft might give in to its demands for bigger shareholder returns.


Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): Current price $498.53

On Thursday, 9to5Mac reported that Apple has hired Enrique Atienza, formerly of Levi Strauss, as a retail director managing multiple regions on the West Coast of the United States. Previously, Atienza handled Levi’s Retail Americas and Global Store Operations, according to the site.
