Battle Between Google and Apple is Getting Sirius
SiriusXM (NASDAQ:SIRI) is adding some new features to its Internet Radio app for Android, giving users of Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) mobile OS a similar experience to that Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and iPad users.
SiriusXM released an iOS update back in December — the new Android features will only bring the app to parity with that available in Apple’s App Store.
The new version allows subscribers to listen to broadcasts from up to five hours in the past, and to start playing any currently streaming song from the beginning. The app also adds Show Finder, a program guide that lets users set alerts for upcoming programming.
The update is now available from Google Play, but though free, it won’t do much good without a SiriusXM subscription. The Internet Radio service costs $14.99 per month, but right now the company is offering a one-week free trial.
