Google’s Services Go Spotty

It may be harder to be productive today as Google has some services go spotty. For many people, Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Gmail service has been unusable, unresponsive, or slow at best. For others, any number of it’s applications aren’t functioning properly.

The company has yet to make a statement on the cause of the problem or what it is doing to resolve the issues, though it does acknowledge some service disruption. The much clearer voice comes from Twitter users, who have come out by the hundreds — if not thousands or more by now — to voice their irritation with the temporary service failure.

It seems the actual mail service is not down, as IMAP and POP3 mail-forwarding has made mail accessible, and Gmail on other devices is working, so it may simply have been a problem with the web application many people use to view Gmail. In some cases, the Chrome browser will crash, though this problem seems to be related to a sync authentication problem between Gmail and Chrome.

Google is currently “investigating reports of an issue with Google Mail” and “will provide more information shortly.” The same is said for Google Drive.
