Here Are Some Specs On Google’s Specs

Google GlassWhether it’s the future or a fad, Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) wearable tech project is coming to market soon, and investors should stay informed. While it’s still effectively in beta testing, Google Glass is really the first product in its category to make it to market. (At least, the limited pool of people who will receive the Explorer Edition models, which are just now coming off the production line.)

In anticipation of of the product’s shipment, Google released some specs. Here’s a rundown with some comparisons to Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 5, just for fun.

Display

  •  High resolution display is the equivalent of a 25-inch-high definition screen from eight feet away.

Camera

  • Photos – 5 megapixels (The iPhone 5 has an 8-megapixel rear camera, while the next iteration is rumored to have a 12-megapixel camera.)
  • Videos – 720p (The iPhone 5 can record video in 1080p HD, or 720p HD for the front-facing camera.)

Audio

  • Bone Conduction Transducer (This is a technology that uses the wearer’s skull as a medium to conduct sound to the inner ear. It has been used in various other hands-free headsets, hearing aids, and specialized communications devices.)

Connectivity

    • Wifi – 802.11b/g (But not 802.11n Wifi.)
    • Bluetooth

Storage

  • 12 GB of usable memory, synced with Google cloud storage. 16 GB Flash total. (The iPhone 5 ranges from 16GM to 64GB of storage.)

Battery

  • One full day of typical use. Some features, like Hangouts and video recording, are more battery intensive.

Charger

  • Included Micro USB cable and charger.
  • While there are thousands of Micro USB chargers out there, Glass is designed and tested with the included charger in mind. Use it and preserve long and prosperous Glass use.

Compatibility

  • Any Bluetooth-capable phone.
  • The MyGlass companion app requires Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. MyGlass enables GPS and SMS messaging.
