Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) said it had fixed sporadic instances of downtime on its website on Thursday evening, but reports of failures continued on Friday morning and notorious hacker group Anonymous appeared to take responsibility for the breakdown.
Don’t Miss: FINALLY! A Facebook Move That Makes Sense.
“Some users briefly experienced issues loading the site,” Facebook’s statement about the outage read. “The issues have since been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
However, reports of problems continued on Friday, with the websites downforeveryoneorjustme.com and just-ping.com reporting outages at several locations around the world. A tweet from the YourAnonNews Twitter account suggested the group may be behind the disruptions. “Oh yeah … RIP Facebook a new sound of tango down bitches,” the tweet said. The group has threatened to bring down the social network in the past.
It’s been an unlucky past few weeks for Facebook, with the company’s IPO facing technical troubles and its shares continuing to drop in value since.
