Is Research in Motion Playing Dirty?

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) admitted Wednesday to being behind the “Wake Up” flashmob protesting in front of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) stores in Australia. RIM issued a statement today confirming its involvement in the Australian “Wake Up” campaign, which involved a series of experiential activities taking place across Sydney and Melbourne. The campaign was officially created by RIM Australia.

Last week, a crowd gathered in front of the largest Apple store in Sydney, Australia. The group was chanting and holding up signs with the phrase “Wake Up” — a phrase was also spotted in other cities around the country. Many wrongfully accused Samsung for being behind the involvement, but the electronic giant denied any knowledge of the matter.

RIM has failed to impress analysts at its BlackBerry World conference, which runs through Thursday this week in Orlando, Florida. Perhaps RIM should focus less on flashmobs and more on the production of solid products.
