The popularity of the Internet over the past decade has not only paved the way for more daily entertainment, but also for more advertising from major corporate giants. According to comScore, a leader in measuring several aspects of the digital world, online video is still growing its presence in the United States. The company recently announced that data from its Video Metrix service showed 187 million U.S. Internet users watched more than 48 billion online videos in July — up from 44 billion videos in June.
As usual, Google Sites generated the highest number with 17.7 billion videos and easily logged the highest average engagement among the top 10 properties. Video ads, often a requirement for viewing online videos, reached 19.6 billion views in July, down slightly from the record high of 20 billion views made in June. Overall, video ads reached 55 percent of the total U.S. population.
