Does Siri Really Favor Nokia’s Lumia Over iPhone?

Is Siri disloyal to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL)? According to The Next Web, when asked to find the “best smartphone ever,” the personal assistant on the iPhone 4S recommended rival Nokia’s (NYSE:NOK) Lumia 900 Windows phone. Though the ironic result has been amusing fans of Nokia and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), there seems to be a partly logical explanation for the recommendation.

Siri answers the question using survey results from WolframAlpha, a site that compares phones, but which has only four user reviews handing the Nokia phone an average of 5 out of 5 points. In fact, the current full list of the top-ten smartphones on the website does not even include the iPhone, while putting another Lumia device, Samsung’s Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android-based Illusion, and, oddly enough, even a Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) tablet on its rankings.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) had earlier come out to say that it was not involved in working on Siri’s search results. “Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information, and while it can find a lot, it doesn’t always find what you want,” Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris had said in November.

Apple’s website continues to advertise Siri as a “beta” service.
