Toys R Us Enters This Adult War

The tablet market has heated up recently, and Toys R Us has announced its entrance. The Tabeo is the company’s new tablet designed for kids. The device has a 7-inch screen, wi-fi, a protective bumper, and comes with 50 kid-approved apps, with an additional 7,000 available for free download. The Tabeo runs on Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) latest Android operating system.

While Toys R Us is entering a market dominated by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Google, and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), it may compete most directly with Barnes & Noble (NYSE:BKS) and the Nook. There are also some other tablet and tablet-like devices aimed at children, such as VTech’s InnoTab, Oregon Scientific’s Meep, and LeapFrog’s (NYSE:LF) LeapPad, which the Tabeo will face off against.

The Tabeo, priced at $149.99, will be available in stores October 21.
