A recent study released by a major mobile market research firm makes one thing very clear: Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) still rules when it comes to web traffic on smartphones and tablets. According to Net Market Share’s latest traffic report, Apple’s iOS mobile platform is still responsible for a majority of all web traffic on smartphone and tablet operating systems, with a 59.04 percent chunk of total market share. This is a decline of 2.37 percent in Apple’s market share from March, but an overall gain from its 54.91 percent market share in February.
According to Net Market Share’s statistics, Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system was responsible for 26.02 percent of all web traffic on mobile devices in April. Oracle’s (NASDAQ:ORCL) Java ME held 9.62 percent in April, while BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) climbed less than a percentage point from the previous month with a 1.51 percent share of the overall market.
Although Apple saw a decline of 4.15 percentage points in market share from the same month last year, its iOS mobile operating system is still dominating web traffic market share. Apple’s percentage of the market is even more impressive when considering that Android-powered smartphones currently outnumber iPhones by about a 2-to-1 margin.
Meanwhile, Google’s percentage of the web traffic market share on mobile devices has only risen to 26.02 percent from 19.27 percent in April of 2012. This is despite Android devices holding almost two-thirds of the total smartphone market.
