Nokia (NYSE:NOK) may be lining up a big announcement after a company flagship store in Helsinki put up banners that “something amazing” had been scheduled for September 7. While the messages seem to suggest that the store will reopen for business on that date, the implication is that Nokia will unveil something bigger, too. The company is also asking people to visit the website NokiaGraffiti.me next week.

Nokia World, the company’s operator and retail conference is scheduled in Helsinki for September 5 and 6.
Blogging site My Nokia Blog is also asking customers to “prepare to be amazed at all the new things in your Nokia store.” The blog does not offer any answers, but wonders whether Nokia may be preparing to launch new Asha phones, which the company unveiled earlier this year. The blog also considers the debut of new Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone devices.
During the release of Nokia’s earnings report on Thursday, company chief executive Stephen Elop said that “the Windows Phone 8 launch will be an important catalyst for Lumia. During the quarter, we demonstrated stability in our feature phone business, and enhanced our competitiveness with the introduction of our first full touch Asha devices.”
While Nokia projected continuing losses at its handset business, sales of the Lumia phone increased to 4 million units in the second quarter from more than 2 million in the previous period.
