Revealed: Apple’s Next Generation iPhone

Here’s to some fresh iPhone rumors. Phone parts and accessories vendor SW-BOX.com has posted images of what it says is the SIM card tray for the next smartphone from Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Going by the images, the sixth-generation iPhone will not be very dissimilar in design to its last two versions.

The SIM card tray is more or less identical to the one found in the iPhone 4 and 4S, though it has subtle differences such as a slight tapering of metal frame pieces and an extra metal shelf. However, the similarity with the flat-edged iPhone 4 and 4S design means that Apple is not planning a drastic rounded-edge design, as predicted by some hopefuls. If the photographs are genuine, it also means that Apple is not going for a Liquidmetal case, as rumored earlier, just yet.

Apple is expected to introduce the latest iPhone later this year, with many predicting the launch will take place around October, the same time as the launch of the iPhone 4S last year.

Apple has also been trying to push for a new SIM standard, but has not received any support on its own new design from the rest of the industry.
