Will Instagram Make the Move to Google Glass?
According to CEO Kevin Systrom, Instagram doesn’t have any aspirations of coding for Google Glass just yet. They’re perfectly content with letting big name companies like Yahoo’s (NASDAQ:YHOO) Tumblr, Twitter, and even their parent company, Facebook, make the move to Glass while they remain idle.
“We’re not yet on Blackberry or Windows Phone, so I think those will come before Google Glass,” Systrom said.
“I’m not saying those will come anytime soon. I’m just saying that in order of priority, the way we evaluate where to expand to is really simply where our users are, and where the growth is. It took us a very long time to get to Android.”
Instagram did take a relatively long time to enable their app to work on Android — nearly 18 months — and it has always been their modus operandi to move at a snail’s pace when hopping onto operating systems other than iOS.
Despite competitors — such as the photo sharing service, Winky — hurriedly preparing their products for Glass, Instagram continues to be patient. Like Systrom said, they’re more concerned with the number of potential Instagram users on a platform, rather than the hype and attention it gets.
For now, it seems as though Instagram’s video announcement is the only big plan for a while. But fear not, Instagram lovers, the next big thing from Instagram should be here in no less than…oh, 18 months or so.
