Actor Vince Vaughn is known mostly for his comedic roles in films such as Old School, Wedding Crashers, and The Internship. Though he hasn’t been in the spotlight much these days, many may remember that he had a brief romance with superstar Jennifer Aniston when they worked together on a movie, playing a couple in the midst of a split.

Art imitating life

Aniston and Vaughn met on the set of the 2006 film The Break-Up. That same year, Aniston was making massive media headlines due to her uncoupling with Hollywood heavy hitter husband Brad Pitt.

In the movie, Aniston portrayed Brooke Meyers, who felt neglected and unappreciated by her immature live-in boyfriend Gary Grobowski, played by Vaughn, according to IMDb. After the two decide to part ways, neither is willing to move out of their shared condo, which leads to ill-given advice from friends, underhanded scheming, and hostile interactions in the effort to get the other to move out.

While working together, Vaughn and Aniston’s chemistry carried over off screen and into a dating relationship.

Mutual praise

The romance lasted approximately a year, ending on good terms. Vaughn has always spoken highly of Aniston, though he did not prefer being under scrutiny by the paparazzi.

“She’s great,” Vaughn said in a March 2015 interview, according to the Huffington Post. “For me personally — and I think most well-known actors who are together feel this way — I never enjoyed the paparazzi side of it. You like someone and you’re spending time with them; that’s separate and that was all fine. But I really spent most of that time finding ways not to be drawn into the attention. I think laying low and not talking about it put me in a good position later, because I just wasn’t part of anything.”

According to People, the actor also wasn’t shy about singing Aniston’s praises while they were dating. “Jennifer’s great. She’s one of my favorite people,” he said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. “She’s just really smart and funny and easy to be with – very considerate. She’s great.”

The couple was subjected to rumors of walking down the aisle, where Aniston called into The Oprah Winfrey Show to quell the gossip. “(The rumors) are so unbelievable,” Aniston told Winfrey. “It sounds like you’re giving me Santa Barbara.” When asked if she had any big announcements to make, Aniston replied, “No wedding, no moves, no, no.”

The actress has also expressed her admiration for Vaughn post break-up, revealing that he helped her through a tumultuous time in her life. “I call Vince my defibrillator,” she told Vogue in 2008. “He literally brought me back to life. My first gasp of air was a big laugh! It was great. I love him. He’s a bull in a china shop. He was lovely and fun and perfect for the time we had together. And I needed that. And it sort of ran its course.”

Moving on

At the end of 2006 after Aniston had visited Vaughn in London on the set of his film Fred Claus, the two made a statement regarding their split. “After Jennifer’s trip to London several weeks ago, Jennifer and Vince mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be good friends today,” their reps told People at the time.

Vaughn went on to marry Kyla Weber in 2010. The couple now has two children. Aniston wed actor Justin Theroux in 2015, but the two parted ways in 2017. They remain good friends.
