1 ‘This Is Us’ Cast Member Stole the Big Green Egg From Set
The cast of This Is Us recently bid farewell to the NBC series, which aired its series finale at the end of May. As with any conclusion, this one was bittersweet. And the actors took home memorabilia to commemorate their time on the show. One This Is Us star even stole the Big Green Egg from set — and it sounds like they have exciting plans for the item.
The Big Green Egg appears in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 3
For those who don’t remember the Big Green Egg, the item made its appearance in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 3. For Jack Jr., the grill is emblematic of his parents’ divorce. Lucy (Auden Thompson) reveals as much during a flash-forward sequence, telling her husband, “You know, you don’t have to keep using that thing. It’s the literal symbol of the day your mom and dad’s marriage blew up.”
Unfortunately, the appliance did seem to spell the end for Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan). As such, their actors didn’t take the object home. Another cast member stole it from the NBC show’s set. And it sounds like he’ll put the smoker to good use in the future.
Cast member Jon Huertas took home the Big Green Egg
The Big Green Egg may bring up bad memories for Jack Jr. (Blake Stadnik), but This Is Us cast member Jon Huertas intends to make new ones with it. That’s right, the actor told Entertainment Weekly that he took home the grill as a token of his time on the series. Because it’s still functional, he can use it just like any other appliance.
“I’ll cook on it this weekend, hopefully,” Huertas said. “I’ll smoke some chicken and vegetables — and I think we’ll be set.”
Of course, the Big Green Egg may hold some additional meaning for Huertas. As EW points out, the actor made his directorial debut with the episode it appears in. Now the actor can look back on the accomplishment while whipping up a nice dinner. Talk about a win-win situation.
Several members of the ‘This Is Us’ cast took home special items
Jon Huertas may have stolen the Big Green Egg from the set of This Is Us, but he isn’t the only cast member to take home something special. The other stars also snatched up props — some much smaller than the Big Green Egg and some even larger.
Christy Metz’s item of choice falls into the latter category, so much so that she needed to request it. She’s hoping she’ll get Katy and Toby’s piano, an item that holds meaning for her and her character.
“There’s so many memories, not only surrounding the piano, but music generally, and I have a perfect place for it,” Metz told EW. “So I’m hoping, fingers crossed.”
Meanwhile, Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore took smaller items, like a pair of boots and Pearson family photos. Those will no doubt remind them of their time playing Jack and Rebecca Pearson as time passes.
All of these items will live on in This Is Us as well, giving fans the chance to see them again.
