Tammy Slaton has still not been approved for weight loss surgery

Amy and her half-brother Chris Combs have both had successful weight loss surgery, as documented on 1000-lb Sisters. However, Tammy has not reached a weight her doctor deemed safe enough to perform surgery.

In November 2021, Tammy shared a post to TikTok where she opened up about her mental health. “Back around July this year, I had a mental breakdown,” said the TLC star. “I lost myself … up until the end of August.”

Tammy took a hiatus from filming for the show for a month and returned in October 2021. Shortly after, she was in the hospital.

“I ended up in the hospital because of carbon dioxide poisoning … which led in to pneumonia and I was septic,” Tammy explained. “After I got off life support, they put a trach in, so I’m trying to get used to that.”

According to recent social media posts, Tammy still has a tracheotomy tube in her neck. At this time, it’s unclear how long Tammy will be in a rehab facility.

Watch Tammy on 1000-lb Sisters Monday nights at 10 PM ET on TLC.
