The 2021 American Music Awards aired on ABC on Nov. 21, and the award show featured some big winners and history makers. BTS won Artist of the Year for the first time, Olivia Rodrigo won New Artist of the Year, and Taylor Swift broke her own record. Hosted by Cardi B, the 2021 AMAs also featured stellar performances by Rodrigo, BTS, Silk Sonic featuring Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak, and more.

BTS and Taylor Swift made history at the 2021 American Music Awards

Taking home the grand prize for the night, BTS won Artist of the Year, beating Ariana Grande, Drake, Rodrigo, Swift, and The Weeknd.

The Korean septet also won Favorite Pop Duo or Group after being nominated alongside AJR, Glass Animals, Maroon 5, and Silk Sonic. BTS’ song “Butter” won Favorite Pop Song, beating Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More,” Dua Lipa’s song “Levitating,” Rodrigo’s “drivers license,” and The Weeknd and Grande’s “Save Your Tears (Remix).”

Swift won Favorite Female Pop Artist and Favorite Pop Album, breaking her own record for the most wins in AMAs history.

In the Favorite Female Pop Artist Category, Swift beat Grande, Doja Cat, Lipa, and Rodrigo. Her album evermore won Favorite Pop Album over Grande’s Positions, Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, Rodrigo’s SOUR, and The Kid LAROI’s F*CK LOVE.

Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion each took home three awards at the 2021 American Music Awards

At the 2021 AMAs, BTS, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion were the top winners with three awards apiece.

In addition to winning Collaboration of the Year with SZA, Doja Cat won Favorite Female R&B Artist over H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Jhené Aiko, and SZA.

Doja Cat also won Favorite R&B Album for Planet Her, beating Giveon’s When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time, H.E.R.’s Back of My Mind, Jazmine Sullivan’s Heaux Tales, and Queen Naija’s missunderstood.

Megan Thee Stallion won Favorite Trending Song with “Body” and also took home awards for Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album.

To win Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist, Megan Thee Stallion beat Cardi B, Coi Leray, Erica Banks, and Saweetie. The rapper’s album Good News won Favorite Hip-Hop Album over Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die, Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon, and Rod Wave’s SoulFly.

Becky G and Bad Bunny won top awards at the 2021 American Music Awards

In the Latin categories at the 2021 AMAs, both Bad Bunny and Becky G had impressive nights. Becky G won Favorite Female Latin Artist over Kali Uchis, KAROL G, Natti Natasha, and ROSALÍA.

Bad Bunny won Favorite Male Latin Artist, beating J Balvin, Maluma, Ozuna, and Rauw Alejandro. In the Favorite Latin Album category, Bad Bunny’s El Último Tour Del Mundo beat Kali Uchis’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), KAROL G’s KG0516, Maluma’s Papi Juancho, and Rauw Alejandro’s Afrodisíaco.
