Lorelai and Rory Gilmore were prone to moments of irrational behavior, but the main characters were nothing compared to the men of Gilmore Girls. Over the course of seven seasons, everyone from Richard Gilmore to Luke Danes threw fits over the women they loved. Do you remember some of their most over-the-top reactions?

Richard Gilmore caused a car accident over Emily Gilmore

Richard Gilmore was a dignified man. While Richard was not one for big shows of emotion, he occasionally let his temper get the best of him. When Dean Forrester built Rory a car, Richard kicked up a fuss. He often lost his cool with Lorelai Gilmore, too. Those moments were downright tame compared to his most unreasonable moment. Richard’s most irrational moment came in season 5, though.

During a rough patch in their marriage, Richard and Emily Gilmore decided to separate. During the separation, Emily agreed to go on a date with Simon McLane, a man in the Gilmores’ social circle. When Richard saw Simon and Emily speaking, he drove into the back of Emily’s car. The tense moment eventually led to Richard and Emily’s reconciliation, so it all worked out in the end.

Luke Danes punched Christopher Hayden

Luke Danes was rightfully upset when Lorelai Gilmore slept with her ex, Christopher Hayden, on the same night she issued an ultimatum about their engagement. He didn’t just let it go, accepting that the relationship was over. Instead, Luke drove to Christopher’s apartment and punched him.

The reaction was certainly a bit impulsive, but it was far from the only time Luke acted on his impulses. When he caught his season 4 love interest, Nicole, cheating, he beat up a car until a concerned neighbor called the police. Later, in season 7, he and Christopher have an all-out brawl in the town square.

Zack Van Gerbig became one of the irrational men of ‘Gilmore Girls’ when he ruined a musical showcase

Zack Van Gerbig isn’t who most Gilmore Girls fans envisioned for Lane Kim. After Dave Rygalski left town, Lane and Zack fell into an easy relationship. He was sweet enough, if not a bit plain. That changed when Zack ruined Hep Alien’s musical showcase because he was jealous.

Zack thought bandmate Brian was making a play for Lane because he wrote a song for her. For some inexplicable reason, the thought of Brian going after Lane made Zack add a new bandmate, buy a new microphone and cause a fistfight on stage. It’s been years since the scene played out on Gilmore Girls, and it still doesn’t make much sense. Zack’s freakout was among the most irrational moments in the show’s seven-season run.
