It’s always sad to know that the relationship between a parent and their child is estranged but it’s even worse to witness things play out on in a public manner. 50 Cent and his adult son, Marquise, have been trading jabs at one another for years. The two once appeared to have a close bond, with Marquise being present during the early days of 50’s career.

Unfortunately, things have taken a turn and the two don’t seem to be near reconciliation. After 50’s most recent revelation that he’d trade his son for rapper 6ix9ine, fans are wondering what went so terribly wrong that the two can’t get on one accord. Marquise responded in his own social media post.

50 Cent and Marquise’s relationship became strained due to 50 Cent’s issues with Marquise’s

50 and Marquise had a loving relationship before things went array. According to 50, their relationship began to become strained after 50 and Marquise’s mother, Shaniqua Thompkins, split in 2008. After Thompkins’ $4 million mansion caught fire, she accused 50 of being involved after his attempt at getting her evicted failed. From there, 50 alleged that Thompkins intentionally kept their son away from him.

50 told MTV News in 2008 that when he refused to fund Thompkins’ lifestyle, she used their son as a pawn. Eventually, he says Marquise sided with his mother. At the time, 50 was saddened by their strained relationship.

“I think he doesn’t want his mom to feel like he’s a traitor,” the rapper said. ” The time I spent away is the time he developed this thing he’s afraid to break with her. There’s nothing you can do about that. This is the toughest [thing I’ve had to face], because he’s my motivation.”

From there, things only got worse. 50 threatened to remove Marquise from his will in 2012. Marquise was 16-years-old at the time. After 50’s second son Sire was born in 2012, Thompkins spoke out and alleged that 50 hadn’t seen Marquise in years and that Marquise felt replaced by Sire. It hurt Marquise to see 50 and Sire’s tight bond play out on social media. The two have yet to get to a better place.

50 Cent says he would trade his son for 6ix9ine and reignites feud with Marquise

50 had a working relationship with 6ix9ine before his prison sentence but distanced himself from the rapper for what he considered to be breaking “street code” after 6ix9ine “snitched” on several people in the music industry to save himself from more jail time. While going live on Instagram on Apr. 7, 50 was asked if he had heard from 6ix9ine since he was released from prison

“No, I ain’t heard from him. He’s his mother’s child now. He told on everybody,” 50 said before taking jabs at Marquise. “He better than Marquise though. I’ll take him before I take my actual [son],” he laughed. “F**k that ni**a.”

It wasn’t long before Marquise heard of his father’s comments and clapped back on his Instagram Story. “Did he just say he would claim a rat?” the 24-year-old asked. “Aww nah, I want no part to that cheese. I don’t know what y’all got going on over there. That’s some other s**t. Stupid!”

Marquise appears to try and keep quiet over the last few years in regard to his father, only speaking out in response to 50’s remarks. Though, People Magazine reported that sources close to the situation believe Marquise tries to entice 50 by jumping into social media beefs between his dad and others that do not involve him.

In 2017, Marquise dropped his debut single “Different,” where he opens up about his relationship with 50. “Lost my pops, he’s still alive,” he raps.

Hopefully, the two can leave things off of social media and move forward in a more positive direction in the future.
