Andrei Castravet and Elizabeth Potthast Castravet, currently appearing on the fifth season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, have faced ongoing in-law troubles and navigated difficult family dynamics ever since they first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé.

This season, fans’ criticism of Andrei has ramped up more than ever—in part due to Andrei’s choice to be a stay-at-home-dad while assuming the role of “head of the household.” The 33-year-old dad and husband also weathered criticism for his negative comments about American women in comparison to those from his home country of Moldova, as well as his choice to announce a last-minute second wedding in Moldova without asking his wife first.

Elizabeth’s dad, Chuck Potthast, wasn’t too pleased that he had to pay for the wedding himself. Meanwhile, two of Elizabeth’s sisters, Becky Lichtwerch and Megan Potthast, blamed Andrei for their inability to attend the event.

Andrei and Elizabeth don’t normally engage critics on Instagram. But it seems that a recent comment from one 90 Day Fiancé fan on Instagram riled Andrei up a bit, as he issued a rare retort.

Elizabeth recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo of her dress-shopping excursion before her second wedding

On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Elizabeth ventured out to Bearer of the Bling Bridal in Kenneth City, Florida, to shop for a wedding dress for her Moldovan nuptials. Her sisters and mom accompanied her, but the excursion turned tense when Elizabeth’s family confronted her about Andrei’s last-minute wedding announcement.

Becky and Megan, in particular, admitted they placed the blame squarely on their brother-in-law’s shoulders. And although Elizabeth found her dream dress, the moment was less than perfect.

The 90 Day Fiancé star recently shared behind-the-scenes photos of that scene at the bridal shop.

She wrote of the intense day in an emotional Instagram caption, “This was a really bittersweet moment for me. I was so happy I found my dress but at the same time, Megan and Becky told me they weren’t able to join us in Moldova. It’s like, you want to be excited because it’s an exciting moment in your life but at the same time you feel selfish because you know others have to suffer. I love you Becky and Megan and would never purposefully leave you out!”

A ’90 Day Fiancé’ fan criticized Andrei harshly in the comments

One 90 Day Fiancé fan had some harsh words for Elizabeth’s husband in the comments of her Instagram post. Arguing that Elizabeth was willing to accept poor treatment from Andrei, the Instagram user wrote bluntly in a lengthy comment, “Your desperation to have a ‘husband’ and a ‘family’ is just a sad sight to watch.”

Comparing Andrei negatively to Elizabeth’s father—who often helped her financially—the commenter continued, “You have a good example of what a husband should be like in your father and yet you chose nothing but an abusive and manipulative man in @andrei19861. Props to your dad for continuing being the good man he is supporting you in your quest of being a blind & desperate wife to Andrei.”

The critic concluded her comment, “I pray someday your situation changes and you begin to give your father the respect & appreciation he deserves and send Andrei packing.” Despite the somewhat harsh language, the comment got over 150 likes, indicating that at least some 90 Day Fiancé viewers argued with their sentiments.

Andrei pushed back against the critic, while other fans chimed in to disagree

While Elizabeth and Andrei, unlike some other 90 Day Fiancé stars, don’t usually respond directly to their critics on social media, this time was an exception. The commenter added the hashtag “say no to abuse” at the end of their argument, and Andrei seemed to think that just went too far.

“Say no to long useless essays,” he wrote in a retort, clapping back to use the commenter’s own phrasing against them.

“You’re a poor excuse of a man,” the Instagram user responded again—but Andrei didn’t engage any further. He and Elizabeth usually only respond to positive comments or neutral questions, and it seems they intend to continue doing just that for the time being.
