Avery Mills and Omar Albakkour first graced our screens on 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. The two had a lot of cultural issues to overcome, but their main problem was finding a way to live in the same country. As a Syrian citizen, it was hard for Albakkour to get a visa to come to the United States and Mills moving to Syria wasn’t an ideal solution. Most of Mills and Albakkour’s storyline focused around this situation, but what TLC didn’t cover, was much of Mills’ family life.

We saw Mills’ mother’s concern for her daughter and worries about her potentially moving to Syria. But we did not hear anything from Mills’ father, and now we know why.

What’s the story with Avery’s dad?

Mill’s dad, Burl “Dusty” Dials, was not featured on the show at all and that’s because he hasn’t been in her life.

“Avery’s mom, Teri, had Avery when she was 16 years old,”
an inside source told InTouch. “He was 17. They were not married and he hasn’t been in both of their lives since then. Avery’s mom married Nate [Mills] soon after and he’s the one who raised Avery. Avery considers Nate her father.”

Mills told Albakkour about her situation with her biological father.

“When I met Omar, he asked about my dad and I told him the story and why my biological father was in jail,” she told the cameras on an episode of  90 Day Fiancé: Self-Quarantined. “He told me it doesn’t matter what he did, you need to go visit him. Omar lost his father when he was only six months old and he’s always wanted that relationship that he could never have with his father. So he told me that my father’s here and I should take advantage of that and that I need to go see him and create a stronger connection with him.”

Since her dad has been in prison, Mills has reconnected with him and Albakkour has even spoken to him.

“I feel like they’re going to be talking a lot more after this,” she said of her dad and husband.

What is Avery’s dad in prison for?

Dials is currently in prison serving a four-year, 11-month sentence due to a 2018 arrest. He was charged with one count of second-degree felony burglary on top of one count of second-degree felony robbery. He is now serving his time at Belmont Correctional Institution in Ohio.

How are Avery and Omar doing?

Fans have been wondering how Mills and Albakkour are doing in their relationship since the two can’t be together due to visa issues. Mills recently went on Instagram and gave people an update on her relationship.

“To clarify, Omar and I are happily married, but I stay in America the majority of the time [because] I sponsor Omar’s visa so I have to keep my big girl job in America, and I’m in college,” she wrote on her Instagram story.

The two plan to reunite as soon as they can and have not given up on getting Albakkour a visa. But the travel restrictions due to COVID-19 have made things even more difficult.
